Goodbye To A Good Year

I have to say 2016 has been good. Aside from gaining a few extra pounds, I really have nothing to complain.

The biggest step I took was enrolling into a masters program at Purdue University. When I was thinking about it, one year ago, I was scared. Then I thought, if not now when? A year from now  will I wonder the ‘what if?’ A year later, a ‘what if’ is not even on my mind.

We went on a few trips. In January, I went to Nashville. I was really lazy and didn’t write a blog, but it was such a great time.

In February, we flew to Mexico to visit family. First we went to Nochistlan, Zacatecas to visit my husband’s side of the family, then to Monte Escobedo to visit mine.

In May, we took our biggest trip of the year. We visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Yamanakako in Japan and Busan in South Korea. We really had a great time. On our way back we flew to Los Angeles, to visit family.

Our summer was pretty chill. We went to our first ever float trip in Missouri. If you’ve never been to a float trip, you pretty much just float on a river for about eight hours and drink until you can’t anymore.

In September I went to Washington DC for a conference. I took advantage of my evenings off and woke up super early to see a couple of the memorials. I hope to be back someday with my husband so that I can explore a lot more!

White House

We went to Colorado in November. I fell in love with that place. We hope to return this year so that we can summit a 14ner! We can do this!

Estes Park

Our last trip of the year was pretty crazy. We drove 4.5 hours to see Monument Rocks. It was December 30th. I had my uncle in town and I really really wanted to show him that Kansas is not all flat. We enjoyed it a lot. If you do go, make sure you read up on all the rules. DON’T CLIMB THE ROCKS! Aside from that, if you are headed west, it’s worth the detour. If you have nothing to do on a weekend, it is almost worth the drive. I do recommend getting a hotel. This whole shenanigans took about 10 hours. We were so tired after that.

I’m so thankful that my husband puts up with all my crazy and spontaneous ideas.

In between traveling, work, and school, I made so many amazing memories with my family and friends. 2016 was indeed a great year.

How will 2017 top this? Hopefully by losing the extra pounds 2016 gave me! ha
