An Unforgettable Weekend Getaway

Have you ever felt like you just want to getaway? I have. Not that I hate where I live or my daily life. It’s just that I love adventures and I wish I could just have the liberty to travel and do whatever I wanted. Unfortunately, that’s not the case right now, so we decided to take last Friday off and getaway for the weekend.

Ideally, I wanted to go down to the beach, but that was too expensive and it seemed a bit ridiculous to drive 14 hours for a three-day weekend. So Branson, MO became our destination.

We packed our bags, grabbed our dog and off we went.

I can sit here and tell you what an amazing time we had, but I’m not going to bullshit you guys. This blog is as real as it gets!

After a four hour car ride, we get to our destination, checked into our hotel and had a pretty good first impression. We are lazy and hate waking up early so we hadn’t eaten anything all day. The only thing I was thinking about when we got there was, where we were going to eat. I was craving Mexican (no I’m not pregnant) so we looked up the closest and best restaurant to eat. I ordered my food ate as much as I could and  left to check out the town.

We saw a pretty cool Hollywood sign so we immediately looked up, “how to get to the Hollywood sign in Branson.” We found it and discovered several cool attractions. We bought tickets to the wax museum and the Castle of Chaos. Within 20 minutes of being in the wax museum, I felt like my stomach was going to explode. I started feeling light headed and began sweating cold. I was sick! I’m not going to explain all the details, but it was the food that had made me sick. Thank God for a pharmacy being close and the creators of pepto because without it, it would have really ruined our night!

The next day we got up and were really excited to walk our dog out in the trails. Oscar had found a pretty sweet spot and couldn’t wait to get outside and maybe do a light jog. We got there and it looked beautiful.  For some reason, I had a weird feeling about it. The trails seemed too small and there was no one walking on them. Oscar kept saying it was OK to keep going but within minutes of getting into the trail I started feeling little feet crawling on my legs. I was covered in ticks! COVERED! I freaked and ran out of the trail as fast as I could. We got them all out but it took hours to get them off.

We did go ziplining and it was a lot of fun as well as the lake. I just wish the whole weekend would have been perfect. That being said, I am in need of a  getaway makeover. Where should we go? Italy, Germany and Switzerland are still on my bucket list. Maybe we should just keep saving for that?

Regardless of how miserable I was for a few hours, I did learn  few things:

  • Forget about the bad and enjoy the good – It’s so easy to get wrapped up on the negative. Don’t let a few negatives ruin your day.
  • My husband is an angel sent from heaven- Seriously! If it hadn’t been for him, I would still  be sick and have head full of ticks.
  • Always pack Pepto and bug spray – ALWAYS
  • Read the reviews – If it says careful with the ticks, you should be careful with the ticks.
  • Life is an adventure – This experience is something I’ll never forget. Life is too short to be taken so seriously.
